Getting started - Training & Meet the Mentor

Four men posing together at a Key4Life event promoting positive change.

Training

You should be reading this after receiving your Mentor Training, preparing you for your Mentor journey, and offering you tools to get the most out of the experience, both for the young man you are matched to, as well as yourself.  Not only will you see the young man develop and progress, but you will also likely experience some personal growth yourself.

The training takes place over 5 weeks, delivered online via Microsoft Teams as follows;

Week 1 – Mentor Orientation, an Introduction to the charity led by our Founder, Eva Hamilton OBE (1 hour)

Week 2 - Meet the Mentor/Mentee. An opportunity to hear from our active Mentors and our young men (1 hour)

Week 3 and 4 - Maximising the Mentor relationship, delivered by life coach Nick Oakley-Smith (2 hour)

Week 5 - Next steps, RISK, FAQs (1 hour)

Session 6 – Safeguarding - this is a compulsory module

Meet the Mentor

Our 'Meet the Mentor' workshops are a great opportunity to be matched with your mentee.

This is a session we run with the young men and the mentors, where pairs are matched up, games are played, and fun is had!

If you are unable to make it to a workshop we will match you directly with your mentee.

The first step following the match is the 3-Way Meeting,   This is a meeting for the mentor, mentee and case worker and takes place either in prison or at one of the Key4Life offices. It follows a set framework giving the mentor and mentee the opportunity to identify areas of need, employment skills and set goals for the weeks ahead.
